The Glaze Library
Discover the unique glazes and colors that define Finnish pottery, each with its own character and story.
Our Glaze Collection
Each glaze is carefully formulated to create distinct textures and colors. The firing process brings out unique variations, ensuring no two pieces are identical.
Nordic Snow
A matte white glaze with subtle cream undertones, reminiscent of winter landscapes. The iron oxide content creates gentle variations in tone.
StonewareSmoke Lichen
A muted green-gray glaze inspired by Finnish forests. Copper oxide creates the distinctive green hue, while reduction firing adds depth.
StonewareTerracotta Rust
Warm earth tones with iron-rich coloration. This glaze celebrates the natural color of fired clay, enhanced with subtle orange highlights.
StonewareBasalt Gray
A deep, rich gray with slight warmth. Manganese dioxide creates the dark base, while the firing atmosphere determines the final shade.
StonewareClay Off-White
A translucent glaze that reveals the natural color of porcelain. Perfect for pieces where the clay body's character should shine through.
PorcelainBirch Bark
Soft beige with subtle texture variations. The glaze mimics the appearance of birch bark, creating organic, natural patterns.

Color Development
Metal oxides create color in glazes. Iron produces browns and reds, copper yields greens, and cobalt creates blues. The firing atmosphere—oxidizing or reducing—affects the final color.
Texture & Surface
Glaze texture depends on the firing temperature and cooling rate. Fast cooling creates glossy surfaces, while slow cooling can produce crystalline effects. Matte glazes contain less flux material.
Clay Body Pairings
Different glazes complement specific clay bodies. Our stoneware glazes work with robust, iron-rich clays, while porcelain glazes enhance the translucency of fine white clay.
